Pulitzer Prize winner Jennifer Egan will lead teachers through an exploration of literary craft. Drawing on exemplary texts and her own approach to writing, she will invite participants to consider how a piece of writing works—and why. The class will include discussion, close attention to technique, and writing exercises in which teachers respond to prompts and share their work. Participants will leave with a deeper sense of a leading writer’s creative process as well as new approaches to use in their own writing and teaching.

Jennifer Egan

Jennifer Egan is an American novelist and short-story writer, born in Chicago and raised in San Francisco. Her critically acclaimed works include A Visit from the Goon Squad, for which she won the Pulitzer Prize, Manhattan Beach, which won the Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction, and The Candy House, a companion to Goon Squad. Her short fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, Harper’s, and other major publications, and she has written feature journalism for The New York Times Magazine. Egan has held a Guggenheim Fellowship and served as President of PEN America.
