Rooted in the sacred rhythms of Salvador, Bahia, Afro-Brazilian dance carries centuries of resistance, ancestry, and joy within every movement. Led by acclaimed Brazilian dancer, choreographer, and capoeira instructor Janete da Silva, this vibrant workshop invites teachers to explore the powerful intersection of dance, music, history, and community. Participants will learn foundational movements from Afro-Brazilian traditions, samba, and capoeira while deepening their coordination, body awareness, and musicality. Set to the pulsating energy of live drumming, the experience bridges bodily expression with rich cultural history, introducing teachers to the vital concept of axé—the life force at the core of Afro-Brazilian heritage. Whether experiencing Afro-Brazilian dance for the first time or looking to deepen an existing practice, participants are encouraged to learn, challenge themselves, and celebrate together. Come move, connect, and experience Brazil through body, rhythm, and culture!
