Deborah Treisman has been the fiction editor of the New Yorker since 2003, working with both established and emerging writers. In this master class, she will explore the relationship between writer and editor and how revision shapes a story. For teachers, the class will offer a rare glimpse of close reading in action. How does she approach a new manuscript? What catches her attention? How does she figure out what a story needs? How does she know when it is ready?
