Our partner, Printed Matter, is hosting this event.
This hands-on course offers an overview of the history of zines—self-published works that have long served as a vital means of direct information sharing, particularly within marginalized communities. Participants will collaboratively create simple folded zines, a technique easily adapted for classroom use or community-based projects.
All materials will be provided.

Treena Thibodeau Bhattacharya
A New York City public-school teacher since 2008, Treena Thibodeau Bhattacharya currently teaches social studies courses including World Mythology, Food and Colonialism, and Queer History. They have forged partnerships with the NYC Department of Emergency Management, the New York Public Library, and the Museum of Mental Health to showcase student-driven solutions to real-world problems. They have written and implemented curriculum for Wild NYC, a project-based module in which students draft original environmental legislation and pitch their ideas to city council members for sponsorship, and have hosted experts from scientific, literary, historical, and culinary fields to support student work. Treena’s fiction and nonfiction have appeared in Barrelhouse, The Idaho Review, and Nimrod, with work forthcoming in The Iowa Review. Treena also teaches yoga and breathwork at the Yoga Room in Astoria and believes that we are meant to move, breathe, learn, and create in community.
